Philippine politics and governance cg10/30/2022 ![]() In this presentation the author will discuss a variety of techniques that he has employed in attempting to assist his students in enhancing their grasp of physical concepts that are sometimes deeply concealed beneath the formal discussions encountered in well-known classical mechanics textbooks. He has found that even students who have been through several years of formal physics courses display, in certain cases, a disturbing lack of physical insight into the mathematical procedures they've mastered. The author has spent two semesters teaching a classical mechanics course offered to upper-division undergraduates and (with some additional content) to M.S. Indeed, the lack of correlation between a conceptual grasp of fundamental ideas in physics, on one hand, and success at solving certain types of quantitative physics problems, on the other, is well-documented in the. ![]() ![]() ![]() The ability to manipulate equations and reproduce "back-of-the-book" answers does not necessarily indicate satisfactory understanding of the underlying physical principles involved. Although partisanship and special interest opposition remain, experience with the Affordable Care Act demonstrates that positive change is achievable on some of the nation's most complex challenges. Policy makers should build on progress made by the Affordable Care Act by continuing to implement the Health Insurance Marketplaces and delivery system reform, increasing federal financial assistance for Marketplace enrollees, introducing a public plan option in areas lacking individual market competition, and taking actions to reduce prescription drug costs. Despite this progress, major opportunities to improve the health care system remain. These and related reforms have contributed to a sustained period of slow growth in per-enrollee health care spending and improvements in health care quality. The law has also begun the process of transforming health care payment systems, with an estimated 30% of traditional Medicare payments now flowing through alternative payment models like bundled payments or accountable care organizations. Research has documented accompanying improvements in access to care (for example, an estimated reduction in the share of nonelderly adults unable to afford care of 5.5 percentage points), financial security (for example, an estimated reduction in debts sent to collection of $600-$1000 per person gaining Medicaid coverage), and health (for example, an estimated reduction in the share of nonelderly adults reporting fair or poor health of 3.4 percentage points). Since the Affordable Care Act became law, the uninsured rate has declined by 43%, from 16.0% in 2010 to 9.1% in 2015, primarily because of the law's reforms. The Affordable Care Act has made significant progress toward solving long-standing challenges facing the US health care system related to access, affordability, and quality of care. The period examined extends from 1963 to early 2016. To review the factors influencing the decision to pursue health reform, summarize evidence on the effects of the law to date, recommend actions that could improve the health care system, and identify general lessons for public policy from the Affordable Care Act.Īnalysis of publicly available data, data obtained from government agencies, and published research findings. ![]() The law implemented comprehensive reforms designed to improve the accessibility, affordability, and quality of health care. The Affordable Care Act is the most important health care legislation enacted in the United States since the creation of Medicare and Medicaid in 1965. Our results, which mirror those found previously for political fake news, suggest that nudging people to think about accuracy is a simple way to improve choices about what to share on social media. In Study 2, we found that a simple accuracy reminder at the beginning of the study (i.e., judging the accuracy of a non-COVID-19-related headline) nearly tripled the level of truth discernment in participants’ subsequent sharing intentions. Furthermore, greater cognitive reflection and science knowledge were associated with stronger discernment. In Study 1, participants were far worse at discerning between true and false content when deciding what they would share on social media relative to when they were asked directly about accuracy. adults recruited online, we present evidence that people share false claims about COVID-19 partly because they simply fail to think sufficiently about whether or not the content is accurate when deciding what to share.
